Visit Rainbow Row
Rainbow Row is one of downtown Charleston’s most iconic sights. The row consists of 13 colorful 18th-century Georgian homes that stretch along East Bay Street from Tradd Street to Elliot Street. It’s believed that these homes were painted their signature colors to make them more visible during storms at sea so that sailors could find their way home safely. Today, they still stand as an incredible reminder of Charleston’s colorful past.
Explore Fort Sumter National Monument
Located just off the coast of downtown Charleston in Charleston Harbor is Fort Sumter National Monument, which marks where the first shots were fired in the Civil War in 1861. The Charleston City Market is one of the oldest markets in America and has been operating since 1804!
